Trenchless Sewer Line Repairs Save You Money And Unnecessary Headaches

Trenchless sewer line repair is a newer method of sewer line repair, though trained technicians have been applying trenchless repairs for around two decades. Most trenchless sewer line repairs can be concluded within a day. This is a huge time-saver when you consider that traditional sewer line repair requires several days of work, plus the time and cost to repair your landscaping afterward.

There are several reasons why sewer line pipes get damaged. Some of these reasons include the age of the pipes, corroded pipes, weather-related damages from freezing and thawing, cracks and bursts, large tree roots entangling with and breaking the pipes, blockages, and more.

Traditional sewer repairing requires excavation. With traditional sewer repair, your landscape, hardscape, driveway, and even city streets can be trenched. You will need to ask for permits to excavate, get permissions for traffic control and rerouting, and other local government requirements. You will also pay for costs related to the restoration of the landscape, driveway, or streets. Labor and material cost can be cheaper for traditional sewer repairs, but trenchless sewer line repairs are, in general, more cost-effective because they do not disturb landscapes and streets. With trenchless sewer line repairs, you do not need to pay for restoration expenses to the landscape.

There are two types of frequently applied trenchless sewer line repair techniques: pipe bursting and pipe lining. You should consult with a technician to find replacement pipe lines that are leak proof, root-resistant, chemical-resistant, and code compliant.

Pipe Bursting Technique

In the pipe bursting technique, there is an entry and an exit hole. A cable pulls a torpedo metal head, which breaks apart the existing pipe and pulls it out of the exit hole. At the same time, the cable pulls in the replacement HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) pipe. These types of pipes have no joint lines, which make them resistant to roots; they are also less prone to corrosion. Usually, the HDPE pipe has the same diameter as the existing pipe.

Pipe Lining Technique

The pipe lining technique, known also as cured-in-place pipe, provides rehabilitation for existing pipes. It usually involves one access hole. The pipe lining technique is a pipe within a pipe; as a result, the diameter of the pipe becomes smaller. A liquid epoxy-resin solution tube is inserted inside the existing pipe and inflated over the damaged area. The new material coats the existing pipe and hardens. This technique cannot be applied if the existing pipe has collapsed.

The Importance of Trained Trenchless Sewer Line Technicians

You should find trained and experienced trenchless sewer repair technicians. Experienced technicians will identify utility crossings and water pipes before commencing work. Experienced technicians can also identify deflection issues that can create problems with inspection. Highly-trained technicians remove deflections in the old line to avoid complications with water pooling in low spots. This will depend on the type of soil in which your pipes are buried.

Technicians will visit your house to do a noninvasive video inspection to identify the problem. In addition to identifying the root cause of the sewer line damage, they will measure the diameter of the existing pipe. Based on the inspection they will provide you with a proposal about the cost and repairs needed for the sewer line. The cost for trenchless sewer line repair will vary based on the depth and length of the sewer, types of material used, and type of trenchless sewer line technique.
